About Gary M. Letchinger

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois in Liberal Arts with a concentration in philosophy and psycho-linguistics. I attended graduate school at the University of Michigan where I was a doctoral candidate in philosophy and received a Master of Arts degree. My special interests included philosophy of science and philosophy of mathematics. I taught classes in mathematical logic, critical reasoning and introduction to philosophy.

I attended law school at the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and received my Juris Doctor degree in 1989. Since that time, I have practiced law in San Diego and have represented clients in the United States and Europe in labor and employment law cases, business contract disputes, and many other aspects of business law and business operations. I have tried cases in front of judges and juries in both state court and federal court. In addition to representing clients, I also taught college classes (both graduate and undergraduates) in various law and philosophy-related disciplines including employment law, business law, and ethics.

I retired from the practice of law and teaching at the end of 2018. My primary interest at present is the history of ideas: how ideas from various human intellectual activities shape the course of history. I am currently working on a research and writing project in this area. I enjoy travel and my current hobbies include classical music (including playing the piano and classical guitar), reading, astronomy, and road bicycling.
